Clinical experts in dysphagia and swallowing difficulties in adults
We have therapists who are skilled at working with individuals with intellectual disability who present with dysphagia.
Nursing homes across the country rely on us to provide their dysphagia care services.
Individuals who require a swallow assessment can simply get in touch with us to arrange an appointment.
We provide dysphagia services and SLT cover for many of our National Acute Hospitals.

Dysphagia Care started out as part of a larger speech therapy practice (The Speech Centre) before becoming a specialist standalone service offering dysphagia care support and swallow assessments to nursing homes in Ireland.
We now offer specialist dysphagia services across Ireland, and have grown year by year to become the primary private dysphagia service provider in the country. We have a team of specialist therapists on hand to quickly assess and manage dysphagia and its risks
Dysphagia is Catriona’s passion. She has spent the last 15 years of her career developing her skills and expertise in this area, and she channels this through her business. As well as her clinical caseload, she provides mentoring and supervision for staff and students, and is involved in developing the Standards of Practice documents for dysphagia practice in Ireland.
Every member of the Dysphagia Care team is passionate about dysphagia. We are all CORU registered, and many of our team are members of the Dysphagia Special Interest group or involved in research alongside our clinical practice. Above everything, we are all committed to providing an expert, efficient, high quality dysphagia care service and swallow assessments to our clients.
Dysphagia Care is the go-to primary provider of private dysphagia services in Ireland. Entirely Speech and Language Therapy led, dysphagia is our area of expertise. Speedy, expert, professional swallow assessments. Nursing homes, hospitals etc. You refer to us, we make an appointment, come out, assess, make recommendations, leave written notes and instructions, leave again
We know how important it is that nursing and care staff understand how to follow our safe swallow recommendations. We also understand the responsibilities of being the first port of call when monitoring for signs of aspiration, and implementing modified food and fluid recommendations. We have created a certified and NMBI accredited online training programme for care staff to minimise the prevalence and risks of dysphagia and aspiration in all care settings in Ireland.
If you have any concerns about a person’s swallow safety, you should seek advice. The most common signs of swallowing difficulty (dysphagia) that are observed are coughing or choking when eating or drinking, but there can be more subtle signs too, such as recurrent chest infections for no apparent reason. The potential consequences of un-managed dysphagia can be severe, so the sooner you can arrange a swallow consultation the better.
Speech and Language Therapists are trained in head, neck and thorax, in particular the complex coordination of the muscles and nerves of the mouth, throat and respiratory system to produce speech. It is these same muscles and nerves that we use for swallowing, so dysphagia and swallowing difficulties naturally fall within our area of expertise. However only some Speech and Language Therapists actually specialise in dysphagia, as it is such a complex and specific area of the profession.
The simplest way to make sure that you are getting the expertise you need is to ask the Speech and Language Therapist about their experience level. All our team are not only CORU registered, including dysphagia skills, but have worked in the area of dysphagia in either community or acute services for many years. In addition, we work as a team, meaning that junior staff members have a senior staff member on call whenever they are conducting an assessment. We are the leading provider of private dysphagia services in Ireland, and are proud to work with our hospital and nutrition company partners to maintain our excellent standards of care.
Insurance companies differ, so the best thing to do is to check directly with your insurance provider whether your particular plan covers Speech and Language Therapy. You can also usually claim tax relief against Speech and Language Therapy services using a Med1 form.
